Marc Broussard is the 25 year-old blues-soul singer-songwriter from Carencro, Louisiana who has been touring with some big-name acts such as Maroon 5 and the Dave Matthews Band. For Directv’s TV 101 concert series he performed at the Lonestar Lounge in Austin, Texas, and around songs from his newest album, S.O.S.—Save Our Souls (released by Vanguard Records on 6/26/07), Broussard talks about his music, his influences, his parents and how they supported him in his career choice when it was clear that college didn’t suit him, but then it’s logical that they would support him since Marc is the son of famous Louisiana Hall of Fame guitarist Ted Broussard. This was my first encounter with Broussard and his music, and I found his music engaging, honest, and he seems to send out good vibes as he plays his songs with heart. Unpretentious and focused only the the music, Broussard sings with smooth vocals that are easy to listen to. He sings with great maturity and attention to how his voice sounds, unlike some bluesy singers who sound too gravely to have nuance. There isn’t much interaction with the audience—Broussard isn’t a performer in the obvious, in your face sort of way—rather, he allows his music to speak for itself. The sound of Broussard’s sleek voice and the soul of the music make him a young musician to keep your eye on. If you have access to Directv, find your way to channel 101 and look for the concert by Marc Broussard. If you love soul music and great vocals, you’ll consider him a find.
